On December 12, Liberal Arts Essence Lecture Series was held by the College of Arts. The lecture entitled Topic Selection, Conception and Publication about the Research of Linguistics and Foreign Language Education was presented by Xiong Tao in the 142 room, Art and Science building. The keynote speaker, doctoral supervisor Xiong Tao, is the Vice Dean of the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. The lecture was presided over by professor Sun Daman, the Vice Dean of the College of Arts in UPC. Directors of departments Guo Yueqin, Peng Cuiqing, Chun Liu and Pan Lixia as well as many teacher representatives and some undergraduates and graduates also participated in this activity.
At the beginning of the lecture, Sun briefly introduced the academic achievements of Professor Xiong and the significance of this lecture. In this speech, Professor Xiong illustrated his academic experience from the linguistics research in six aspects: “personal practice”, “reflection and question”, “clear topic selection”, “academic communication”, “partnership” and “precise creation”. In response to the procrastination occurring in academic research and in light of his own experience. Professor Xiong suggested that we can constrain ourselves by setting time limits and urge ourselves to complete tasks with more efficiency. He mentioned that in the process of academic research, we need to find a suitable partner so that we can study academic issues more comprehensively and meticulously. Then, Professor Xiong described his research conclusions and sentiments with four examples in his foreign language education research. During the interactive session, Professor Xiong patiently answered the questions raised by audiences. Finally, Professor Guo summarized the contents of this lecture and shared her own impressions.
After this lecture, teachers and students learned more about some new topics and new projects about linguistics and foreign language education research, and raised awareness in terms of problem, cooperation and innovation, which may be helpful to better complete the writing of academic papers.
